According to multiple reports, the Chicago Bears waive safety Winston Venable. Venable was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Boise State. Like a lot of the Bears back-ups, Venable made his name on special teams. He was another great player on special teams, with 10 special team tackles (5th on team). In 2011, Venable appeared in 12 games and had 8 tackles (just on defense).

Winston Venable was off and on the Bears roster last season. With Venable appearing 12 games last season, he was also on the Bears practice squad. He came off the Bears practice squad when a safety became injured. As I already mentioned, Venable was a great special team players. However, the Bears signed a few special teams players this off-season.

Venable manly lost a spot on the roster when the Bears drafted Brandon Hardin in the 3rd round of the NFL draft. The Bears safeties consist of Major Wright, Chris Conte, Craig Steltz and they will have a spot on the roster.

Venable may get picked up by a team on waivers and play with them. But if he is cut in training game or spring training, I can see the Bears re-signing him to their practice squad. As he knows their defense and will be easy for him to go back.

As of now, Venable has not been picked up by a team since the Bears have waived him.

I like Venable, but there’s just no spot on the roster. I hope he is re-signed to the practice squad, but I don’t know if that will happen.
