Yes, we all know Patrick Sharp is a very good looking individual. He’s easily among the most handsome men in the National Hockey League and a fan favorite for reasons other than what he does on the ice.
But that’s not what we’re talking about here. As difficult as it might be to focus on something other than his good looks, Patrick Sharp has played some splendid hockey of late, which has helped catapult the Blackhawks to that 8-1-1 record that they have in their last 10 games.
With a goal and an assist in Friday night’s dominating 4-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks, Sharp ran his point streak up to eight games. That snapped his previous career high of seven. In those eight games, Sharp has 11 points and three game-winning goals. Two of them came in back-to-back overtime games, against the Islanders and Sharks, respectively, while the other came against the Blues back on December 3rd.
Very early on this season, Sharp looked like a guy that missed all of training camp and the preseason. That makes sense because he did. An emergency appendectomy sidelined Sharp for the entire preseason, though he was ready for the season opener.
It’s not as if Sharp was awful or anything near that. He simply started slow and looked “off”. Shots that would normally find the back of the net weren’t finding it and he just needed some of that extra time to shake the rust off.
It didn’t take long for Sharp to easily find his groove and he’s right back where he was for most of last season among the league’s scoring leaders. He has 34 points now, which is tied with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa, among others, for seventh in the league. That’s a total tied for seventh in the league, just five off of the league lead. Sharp’s plus-15 is also in the league’s top 15.
The Hawks haven’t gotten too much production from their bottom six, offensively, with the exception of Friday’s win, but they haven’t really needed it yet. They might need it eventually, but with Patrick Sharp and the rest of the stars shouldering the offensive load, the Blackhawks are looking fantastic. In Patrick Sharp’s case, of course, he’s looking fantastic both on and off the ice.
