The Cubs are in the enviable position of having the hottest commodity on the trade market; starting pitcher Matt Garza. As Chicago seems to be entering rebuilding mode the suitors for Garza are lining up. The Blue Jays and Red Sox have been rumored to be interested in the Cubs starter. The Yankees definitely need another quality starter. Now the Detroit Tigers, apparent bridesmaids in the Gio Gonzalez talks, may be the next to enter the Garza discussions.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN.com the Tigers have let it be known that they will include top pitching prospect Jacob Turner in a deal for the right starter. Turner, who is just 20 years old, spent most of the 2011 season with Double-A Erie. He averaged 7.1 strikeouts per nine innings and just 2.5 walks per nine. The youngster made three starts for the Tigers but predictably struggled to a 8.53 ERA in 12 2/3 innings. Turner is generally regarded as the Tigers top pitching prospect and could be just the type of premium talent to head a package deal for Garza.

The addition of Garza would give Detroit a formidable rotation featuring a top three of reigning AL Cy Young and MVP award winner Justin Verlander, Doug Fister and Garza. The 27 year old Fister went 8-1 with a 1.79 in 10 starts for the Tigers after a mid-season trade from Seattle.
