With Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III both slated to head towards Indianapolis and Washington respectively, it appears that former Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill and the Minnesota Vikings will very popular before the 2012 NFL Draft in April.

Tannehill, a former wide receiver converted to quarterback, has seen his draft stock rise as high at fourth overall to the Cleveland Browns in some mock drafts.

After being shunned in St Louis’ blockbuster trade with Washington for the right to draft Griffin III, speculation has begun in Cleveland that the Browns may target the third-rated quarterback in the 2012 NFL Draft in Tannehill with the fourth overall pick in April.

While it is no secret that the Browns are not completely sold on McCoy, Cleveland would pass on newly-signed Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Flynn.

Make no mistake, Cleveland was smart in not mortgaging its future for Griffin III and were wise to pass on Flynn, but to go after a quarterback prospect who has played 20 games at the position is a terrible move.

If this move does indeed come to fruition, what kind of message does that send to McCoy?

ESPN North blogger, Kevin Seifert, writes that the Browns may find themselves in competition with the Miami Dolphins for the right to take Tannehill.

Cleveland who current holds the fourth overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and Miami who currently holds the eighth overall pick have reportedly both shown interest in trading up to Minnesota’s slot at #3.

Oren Shiri of NFLDraftInsiders.net tweeted Minnesota will listen to trade offers from both the Browns and Dolphins for the third overall pick, and that both Cleveland and Miami are very interested in Tannehill.

While both teams have a need to upgrade the quarterback position, Miami makes the most sense for Tannehill as they would hire his former head coach at Texas A&M—and the Dolphin’s new offensive coordinator—in Mike Sherman.

The Dolphins would also be able to provide better offensive line protection, quality wide receivers in Davone Bess, Brian Hartline and a dual-threat playmaker in Reggie Bush.

Miami also has established veterans at quarterback in David Garrard and Matt Moore to sit behind and learn the NFL ropes as opposed to Seneca Wallace and Thaddeus Moore up in Cleveland.

While both storied NFL franchises in their own right, the most they have in common—besides being dysfunctional—is that both of their sights are set on trading up with Minnesota for the right to grab a prospect who has played less than two dozen games in Tannehill is another classic case of fools rushing in.

      Matt,

Personally, I think the Dolphins and Browns may work out a trade with Miami taking Tannehill and Cleveland taking Floyd.
