Browns Ink RB Trent Richardson, Four Years, $20.4 Million

BEREA – The Cleveland Browns and running back Trent Richardson have agreed to terms on a four-year deal worth $20.4 million.
Richardson, the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft , will receive a signing bonus of $13.341 million and a base salary of $390,000 for 2012, $1.321 million in 2013, $2.252 million in 2014 and $3.184 million in 2015.
Cleveland also holds the option to pick up Richardson’s fifth year in 2016. The Browns can also choose to retain Richardson by offering him the average amount paid to running backs in 2015.
Hopefully, for both the Browns and Richardson, it will never get to that point as the two-time BCS national champion will most likely shoulder the bulk of Cleveland’s offense in the upcoming 2012-13 season. Along with Richardson, Cleveland’s offense may feature five rookies as projected starters in quarterback Brandon Weeden, wide receivers Josh Gordon, Travis Benjamin and right tackle Mitchell Schwartz.
With the Browns signing of Richardson, it gives Cleveland one less high-profile rookie holdout to worry about, as Cleveland can now turn it’s attention to getting Weeden signed.
Weeden, who would state that he would like all four years guaranteed in his rookie contract, appears no closer to signing before the start of training camp this coming Saturday, and before the Browns first pre-season game at Detroit, August 10.
