First Gael Clichy, then Samir Nasri, could Gunners striker—and team captain— Robin Van Persie become the third Gunner to be swooped up by Manchester City?

With the recent suspension and near-loan of striker Carlos Tevez to Premier League rival, West Ham, City may be in line to acquire the Dutch standout as a possible replacement for Tevez.

According to The Guardian and The Independent, City is exploring the option of landing Van Persie on loan from Arsenal.

Van Persie, 28, who would join Arsenal from Dutch side, Feyenoord has scored 69 goals in 162 appearances for the Gunners.

In a season which has seen the much anticipated move of Cesc Fabregas to FC Barcelona along with the departures of Clichy and Samri to City, the Gunners can ill afford to lose a player of the caliber of van Persie not only on the pitch but in terms of leadership and scoring.

The Gunners currently sit 13th in the English Premier League table with six points and with the recent transfer pickups of Andre Santos, Per Mertesacker, Alex Song, Mikel Arteta and  Park Chu-Young, all may not be lost for the Gunners, but if van Persie goes to City, it may be a long—and uneventful—year at Highbury for Arsenal.
