Imagine sitting on the couch inside your fraternity house and receiving a phone call less than an hour before the school’s big football game that they needed you to suit up. For Tennessee Volunteers punter Derrick Brodus–that’s exactly what happened this past weekend.

The video above shows Brodus talking to the media after Saturday’s game against Middle Tennessee and sharing his story about how he received a last-second call to play kicker while hanging out at his fraternity house and watching football on the couch. Apparently, Tennessee found themselves in desperation mode after Michael Palardy suffered an injury on Thursday and backup Chip Rhome pulled a muscle while warming up before the game–so the Volunteers turned to Brodus.

Of course, Brodus came through for Tennessee after connecting on all three extra point attempts and even drilled a field goal from 21 yards out. Even if Brodus doesn’t play much over the next couple of years at Tennessee–this is still one of those memorable stories the kicker will enjoy sharing for the rest of his life.

And as Brodus jokes about in the video, Tennessee should consider themselves lucky their last-second kicker wasn’t participating in any college-related activities before Saturday’s game. Thanks to Yahoo! Sports for the information and video in this story.
