The Minnesota Wild Sign 51 Year Old Paul Deutsch
So what happens when your starting goalie is out for personal reason and the netminder you call up won’t be able to make it time? Well if you are the Minnesota Wild you sign a 51 year-old recreational player from the area.
Niklas Backstrom is out for personal reasons and the Wild’s AHL goalie Matt Hackett would not be there by the time the game started, so they signed Paul Deutsch. He runs a screen printing and embroidery store, but tonight he will the back-up goalie.
While we don’t know how much Deutsch is getting paid he should have tried to negotiate a decent payday considering he knows the Wild are short on options. If you are only going to play one game at least make some money from it.
Deutsch has been used at practice before; he is friend of assistant coach Mike Ramsey.
I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope he gets some action in net, imagine a 51 year old stoning David Legwand or Shea Weber. That would be a legendary moment in NHL history and think about the press it could get for the league.
I don’t know about you guys but I am pretty sure Disney is out there trying to make this into a movie.
