Terrell Owens Rumored to be Looking for a Job in San Francsico
Bob Donnan-US PRESSWIRE

The San Francisco 49ers are heading to their season finale needing a victory over the St. Louis Rams to clinch the No. 2 spot in the NFC West. Yet, that task has gotten much more difficult as a rash of injuries to the 49ers’ wide receivers threatens that chance. Currently the only healthy receivers the 49ers have on their roster are Michael Crabtree and Brett Swain.

Earlier in the season the 49ers lost Josh Morgan to a leg injury, Ted Ginn injured his ankle a couple weeks ago and did not play on Saturday versus the Seattle Seahawks and Kyle Williams left the Seahawks game with a head injury after taking an unnecessary hit from the Seahawks on a kick return. Also lost against the Seahawks was Delanie Walker who was inadvertently kicked in the helmet and left the game with a jaw injury.

With all the injuries mounting, the 49ers then released Braylon Edwards on Tuesday based on his performance and his struggles with a knee and shoulder injury for much of the season.

Yet, current 49ers safety Donte Whitner received a tweet from a name 49ers fans are familiar with; his name is Terrell Owens. His tweet read “Let em kno if they need me, I’m ready homie!! I’m ready 2 take em deep!!” That plays into the hands of what Jim Harbaugh said after the release of Edwards and that is ”the team might look outside the organization” to fill the void at wide receiver.

Of course there’s a number of current free agent wide receivers the 49ers could also look at including three former 49ers, Jason Hill, Antonio Bryant, and Dominique Ziegler. Other current free agents are:  Bernard Berrian, Hank Baskett, Chris Chambers, Keary Colbert and Patrick Turner.

None of those names are as big as Owens! The only thing the 49ers risk is that he doesn’t perform well after being out the entire 2011 season so far due to a knee injury and of course his age at 38.  Owens, though, has always kept himself in great shape and this injury should not have much of an effect on him. At the age of 37, he still showed that he can be very productive as a Cincinnati Bengal. In 14 games during the 2010 season, including 11 starts, he caught 72 passes for 983 yards and nine touchdowns.

At this point the 49ers should be asking themselves why not? The reward is greater than the risk and what a story it would make to have Owens come full circle and give the 49ers a chance at the Super Bowl for the first time since 1994.

I’m all for it! I hate the fact that the NFL is toning down all the excitement in football! If they have their way it will be like watching a game of Golf in 10 years! I mean what the hell is everyones problem with celebrating? If your good? If you make a good play? you should have the freaking right to celebrate for gods sake! They took steroids out of baseball and now its as boring as hell like it used to be! I’d rather watch golf then baseball on TV now. We need Terrell to run to the dallas star, pull his freaking pants down and moon all of those texans! Why? Cas Aint Noone Got it Better than US! thats why! Sign T.O. and bring the excitement back to football! Crabtree and Davis are ok, they could do it if they have a good game..but if we had an Owens option in the mix….That would seal it!
