A day after the New York Jets 19-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins eliminated them from playoff contention, upset fans turned their anger and frustration towards wide-receiver and “captain,’ Santonio Holmes.
Fans are fuming over the star receiver allegedly quitting on his team after being benched late in the game. Holmes was caught by TV cameras yelling and shouting while in the huddle before he was pulled off the field. Cameras then focused their attention to a pouting Holmes sitting alone on the bench staring off into space without regard for what was happening on the field. It’s been widely speculated that Holmes had become a “cancer” in the locker room and had quit on the team long before the game in Miami.
Running back Ladainian Tomlinson summed it best, “Let me just say there were some guys in the huddle that were unhappy with Tone’s demeanor,” Tomlinson said. “When you have a group of guys fighting their butts off and one guy, for whatever reason, their demeanor’s not with them, you’re going to get some guys to say something to him and tell him how they feel. That’s what you got today.”
After the game the Holmes situation blew up through social media and as all good fans do, Jets fans began to unleash their frustrations on the disgruntled star. Several organized an “unfollow” campaign on twitter while others went with the more traditional route and decided to just take a lighter to Holmes no. 10 jersey.
Unfortunately, as you can see in this video even Jets fans have a tough time doing anything right these days. Enjoy!
