The brawl between Xavier and Cincinnati was an ugly incident that marred college basketball.  Xavier has imploded since then, dropping four of five contests.  The crowd at Xavier contributed to the awful situation and the Dean of Students has had enough.  Luther Smith is requiring Xavier students to attend a mandatory “reflection” session this coming weekend.  If they fail to comply, they are not eligible for tickets the rest of the year.

This is an extreme step, but one that might do some good.  I’m sure the session will be painless and it will serve as a reminder on how to act at basketball games.  I have some good friends that attend Purdue University and they said the Xavier crowd is quite hostile.  Hopefully this has the right effect and we don’t hear about this anymore.

For those who are interested, here is the letter that Smith sent out, also provided by BotP
