In recent weeks, Floyd Mayweather has made it clear that he wants to fight Manny Pacquiao on May 5 from the MGM Grand. The world’s best pound-for-pound fighter voiced his opinion on his Twitter account a short time ago that he wants the Filipino fighter to be his next opponent.

Just last week, a Las Vegas judge ruled that Mayweather could start his 90-day jail stint June 1 after his guilty plea to domestic violence charges, leaving the door open for a fight against Pac Man. Mayweather was expected to start his three-month sentence on Jan. 6 until the judge’s ruling.

Coming off of his controversial victory over Juan Manuel Marquez in November, Pacquiao has also been adamant that he wants to fight Mayweather next. He discussed that in an interview with PhilBoxing.com.

“I’ve said this over and over before and I’m saying this again, I want Floyd Mayweather Jr. to be my next opponent and I haven’t changed my choice despite recent developments,” Pac Man said.

As a lover of the sport of boxing, this matchup needs to get done. Everyone, even individuals who aren’t huge supporters of the sport, want to see the fight take place between the top two fighters that this planet has to offer.

After dodging Pacquiao for years, fighting him right now makes sense for Mayweather. Pacquiao didn’t look like his usual brilliant self in his last fight against Marquez and Mayweather would be the overwhelming favorite being that he is quicker and the much large man between the two.

For the sake of the sport, lets hope this fight gets agreed upon by both sides. A large fight like this could help a sport that has been struggling to put fans in the seats and get pay-per-view buys for the last couple of decades.
