Sometimes athletes can be too smart for their own good. Aleksandr Geynrikh tried a trick shot penalty kick and paid dearly for the effort. Trailing 5-0, Geynrikh had a chance to put his team on the board. However, he tried to fake out the keeper by passing it to someone else. The defense wasn’t fooled and it was cleared away.
Some speculate that he was trying to match Johan Cruyff’s penalty shot from the 1980s. That one actually worked.
