At this point, the New England Patriots are 3.5 point favorites to beat the New York Giants on February 5th. At this point, Tom Brady is considered an elite quarterback while many still are on the fence when it comes to bestowing that title to Eli Manning. At this point, public sentiment is on the Patriots side when picking who will win. At this point, you can still change your mind.

Let’s start by looking back to the 2007 season. The Pats beat the Giants to close out the regular season with a perfect record. We all know the story from there, the rematch in Super Bowl XLII which led to a Giants upset of the heavily favored Patriots chasing down perfection. Tom Brady did not win that game, Eli Manning did. Tom Brady did not win the Super Bowl MVP, Eli Manning did. While Brady may be using revenge as a motivator, Eli has the confidence of been there, beat him.

Fast forward to this season when the Giants beat the Patriots at Gillette Stadium in week nine. One of only three teams to beat the Patriots this season, the Giants were able to so without the aid of Hakeem Nicks and Ahmad Bradshaw. The Giants offense did not allow a sack while the defense came up with the only two of the game. They were also able to force Brady into three turnovers, notching two interceptions and a forced fumble on the golden boy. The Giants were the only team to beat the Patriots in their own house. The Giants are one of only three teams to keep the Patriots offense to 20 points or less. While the Patriots may be using revenge as a motivator, the Giants have the confidence of been there, beat them.

Every great athlete or team has a rival tailor made for them. Muhammad Ali had Joe Frazier, Rafael Nadal has Roger Federer, the Yankees have the Red Sox, and now the Patriots have the Giants. At this point, the Giants have the advantage.
