Indianapolis hosted its first Super Bowl last week, and by most reports, the celebration was a home-run for the city and its visitors. The combination of a centralized downtown, where most events were within walking distance of Lucas Oil Stadium, and an abundance of local volunteers, helped to garner nationwide praise. The response was so overwhelmingly positive, that the Circle City has already been mentioned to be back in the mix for another Super Bowl bid, possibly as early as 2017.

Archie Manning, father of Peyton and Eli, expressed praise for the city. “We’ve had a great week. We’ve enjoyed Indianapolis. I knew they’d have a jillion volunteers. The weather’s cooperated. Great week for Indy.”

On Monday, organizers stated that over a ten-day period, more than a million people had been coming and going around Indy and the Super Bowl village downtown. A reported crowd swell of 50,000 people flooded the streets on Friday night alone, during a free concert from Super Bowl halftime performers, LMFAO. The cold weather city was even blessed by an unseasonably warm week, which no doubt assisted the popularity.

State excise police reported 218 arrests during Super Bowl week, over half of which were for underage drinking.  Only 12 arrests were made on game night, mostly for public intoxication and fighting.

Overall, with well-planned events and a little old-fashioned Hoosier hospitality, Indianapolis pulled off Super Bowl XLVI without a hitch. The city may or may not get another Super Bowl bid in the future, but it sure did shine during the past week.
