Arnold Palmer Hospitalized; Tiger Woods Wins Tournament

By Michael Terrill

Arnold Palmer was unable to present Tiger Woods with the trophy for winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational Sunday afternoon due to high blood pressure that forced him to be taken to the hospital.

Palmer has been taking new medication which resulted in high blood pressure. The 82-year-old was constantly checking his blood pressure throughout the day and seemed to be fine during an on-air interview with CBS. However, doctors noticed that his blood pressure was high enough where they thought taking him to a hospital for additional testing was necessary. It has been reported that Palmer will be hospitalized overnight for precautionary reasons.

Not only is it unfortunate this happened to Palmer during the final round of his tournament, but I am sure several fans were looking forward to seeing him present Woods with the trophy and congratulating him on winning the tournament for the seventh time in his career.

This was Woods’ first victory since the BMW Championship on September 13, 2009. That means the legendary golf pro has not won a tournament in 30 months. Woods finished 13-under and will receive $1,080,000 in earnings with Graeme McDowell coming in second place at eight-under.

“It does feel good. It feels really good,” Woods said, according to ESPN. “It’s been a lot of hard work.”

I am sure this is a fine victory for Woods, who desperately needed one after his 26 starts without a win, but I am sure he has his eyes set on bigger things.

“I am excited, no doubt,” Woods said. “I’m looking forward to the momentum I’ve built here.”

What he is excited about is not the fact he is one victory short of tying Jack Nicklaus for the second-most career wins in professional golf history, but rather another run at the Masters which starts April 5.
