Rumor: The Rock Versus Brock Lesnar at Wrestlemania 29?
Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

It seems like only yesterday when The Rock make his triumphant return to the WWE as the host of Wrestlemania 27. Since hosting that Wrestlemania, it took a matter of days for the WWE to book their main event for Wrestlemania 28 a year in advance. Well, that year is now just a week away as two legends (Rock-Cena) of the business are set to square off in Miami. While I am semi-excited about the clash of the titans we will see in a week, the rumor of The Rock versus former WWE and UFC champion, Brock Lesnar, intrigues me more.

The Rock sat down to an interview with AP writer, Dan Gelston, and he asked The Rock about his thoughts on the matter.

“I’m not saying a thing,” said a laughing, grinning Rock, eyebrow raised.“I didn’t say anything.”

Rock also said: “They know that I’m back, not for money, not because I like being on the road, but because I love the business. The energy level is different this time around, the connection is more emotional this time around.”

If this is in fact true – and if it was possible – I would order Wrestlemania 29 tomorrow. Granted, The Rock’s return has been less than stellar this month. It’s kind of sad knowing that Cena is outworking him on the live mic. Yes, The Rock’s skits – that are pre-taped – have been gold. But when The Rock is live, he has been repetitive, silly, and dumb.

However, a main event with Brock Lesnar would be flat out amazing. In 2004, Lesnar left the WWE prematurely when he tried to make the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings. In the obvious failed attempt with the Vikings, Lesnar turned to the UFC, becoming the biggest draw the UFC ever had.

Ever since Brock won the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 100, it’s been a rocky road for Lesnar. Whether it was mono or diverticulitis, Lesnar became a shell of his former dominating self. And after getting destroyed by Alistair Overeem during a December 30th bout, Lesnar announced his retirement from the UFC, which fired up the Lesnar-WWE rumors.

Like The Rock, Lesnar will never return to the WWE full-time, but a big payday has to be appealing to Lesnar.

According to rumors, the main event for Wrestlemania 29 could be introduced the Monday night after Wrestlemania 28. Also, the WWE has huge plans for Wrestlemania 29, with Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, and Brock Lesnar in the works.

I guess we will just have to wait and see, considering the wrasslin’ business can change within a blink of an eye.
