LA Angels RF Torii Hunter Tweets About Interesting Police Encounter
Mark J. Rebilas-US PRESSWIRE

Los Angeles Angels right fielder Torii Hunter is one of the game’s most electrifying players, and should be on pace for another great MLB season in 2012.

Hunter is usually in the news for swiping bases, making highlight catches in right field, or coming up with a clutch hit that leads his team to victory in an important game.

Torii made a little of his own “news” on Twitter earlier today, tweeting about his confrontation with a few cops who attended to an alarm that went off inside his home in Newport Coast, California:

My alarm went off in my house while I was in it. 20mins later I saw cops checking out the scene. Went outside and they drew there guns on me

They didn't believe I lived here in Newport coast so they walked me upstairs at gunpoint to get my ID.

There are a couple of funny lines in here, but none funnier than “The police department did a great job of protecting my home. Thanks guys… from mayhem like me!!!”

It’s a good thing for Torii Hunter that this ended the way it did, and not the way it could have. In light of the break-ins of athlete homes which are becoming all-too-common in tough economic times, it could have been much worse.

Luckily, this particular set of policemen were light on the trigger finger and took the time to put two and two together, and realize they were indeed in the house of a multi-millionaire and not talking with a burglar.

Props to Torii Hunter for seeing the humor in the situation although I’m sure he was nervous as hell as it was transpiring.
