Bill Murray is a diehard Chicago Cubs fan and he was invited to Wrigley Field to throw out the first pitch of the Cubs season as they took on the Washington Nationals.

The game didn’t end the way Cubs fans wanted, as Kerry Wood and Carlos Marmol combined to ruin a great start from Ryan Dempster.  New manager Dale Sveum came under fire for some managing decisions, but you will have that.

Before Murray threw the first pitch, he decided to race around the basepaths.  It wasn’t the fastest effort in the world, but Murray made it all the way around without collapsing.  After he finished, he slid into home plate.  I think the run tired him out because his first pitch didn’t quite make it to home plate.  It certainly wasn’t the worst first pitch ever, but it wasn’t extremely good.

Hopefully that is not a sign of things to come for the Cubs.  Then again, I highly doubt this is the year that Cubs fans everywhere have been waiting for.  It’s going to take a while before they are back in playoff contention.  Theo Epstein will get them there, but things like this take time.

At least they still have the bleacher seats and Old Style.  Those might be the two positives to this Cubs season.  The baseball won’t be good, but at least the beer will always be cold.  If that fails to happen, you know it is really not the Cubs season.

Thanks to CBS for the video.
