For the second year in a row a streaker put a halt to the Baltimore Orioles first home game of the season, This time wearing nothing but a cape and undies. The “super” fan is just another in a long list of recent Baltimore streakers.
The Orioles opened their season with a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins before a sellout crowd of 46,773. But at least one of them didn’t stick around long enough to see his beloved O’s hold off a late Twins rally for the win.
In what is quickly becoming a strange tradition, in a sport so deeply rooted in tradition, the game came to a screeching halt while security and police officers ran around the outfield trying to wrangle up another elusive opening day trespasser.
Finally, after about a minute of silly prancing and juking, police moved in to tackle the caped crusader, but not before one of them closed lined the scantily clad rabble-rouser. It was a tackle even the Washington Redskins would be proud of.
This in the second time in as many opening days that a fan has made their way onto the playing field. I’m starting to think getting drunk and running on the field in almost as American as baseball itself.
In the end fun was had by all. The Orioles won for the 17th time in 21 Opening Day games at Camden Yards. I guess that’s the consolation prize for 14 straight losing seasons and consecutive seasons with losers running of the field.
