Tiger Woods Half Apologizes for Kicking his Club at the Masters

By Steve Palumbo

Tiger Woods sort of apologized to golf fans all over the world for his very publicized tantrum at the Masters, that included him drop-kicking his club.

The former greatest golfer to ever live, hasn’t been himself since a very public series of indiscretions that cost him his life, marriage and essentially his career. He appeared to be getting his swing and game back when he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational by scoring a -13 and winning by five strokes. It was his first PGA Tour win in 30 months.

That was almost two weeks ago, but it might as well have been another 30 months ago. Woods hasn’t looked very good in this weekends Masters – an event he’s always played well in.

For the second consecutive day, Woods failed to birdie on a single par-5. Just to put that in perspective, in his previous 17 Masters, that had only happened two other times. In those 17 prior events he finished 133 under par on those four holes. But, this is not the same Tiger. In fact, far from it.

On Friday, he was caught by TV cameras throwing a tantrum like a four-year old. His profanity laced outburst was accentuated by punting his 9-iron after a bad shot on the sixteenth hole. Fortunately, Woods kept his cool on Saturday and did try to make amends for the kick heard around the world.

A seemingly disingenuous Woods half-apologized, half-joked about his very unprofessional meltdown…

“I apologize if I offended anybody by that,” Woods said some after his round on Saturday. “I certainly heard that people didn’t like me kicking the club, but I didn’t like it either. And it didn’t feel good on my toe.”

He almost sounded contrite….until he mentioned his sore toe.

It’s obvious we will NEVER see the old Tiger Woods. It might be time for people to stop paying attention to his tired act. Alas, this is the type of stuff fans and non-fans enjoy – like watching a train wreck. We just can’t take our eyes off of him because we have to see what happens next. You just never know when he’s going to give us something else to gossip about.

You get’em Tiger.
