Mike Tyson is not a big fan of George Zimmerman. When the boxing legend was asked about the Trayvon Martin killing and his opinion of the shooter, Tyson replied, “It’s a disgrace he hasn’t been shot yet.”
Tyson also believes that Zimmerman grossly violated his authority by following Martin after officers asked him to stop pursuing Martin. Tyson thinks that Zimmerman attempted to cause trouble with Martin by following him for such a long period of time.
I am not going to comment on the case itself, but I do want to comment on Tyson’s comments. As much coverage as this case has gotten, it is going to be nearly impossible to pull of a successful trial of Zimmerman. This is about to be the OJ Simpson case of the new century. It is racial, which is going to make for some tough truths coming out.
Tyson has every right to say what he feels on the subject. In fact, he probably said what a lot of people truly feel. His opinion is probably pretty widespread, but I doubt many people would go on record of saying they hope Zimmerman is shot.
This case will get a lot of coverage and we have already seen how the Miami Heat feel about the whole thing. This is something that affects a lot of professional athletes, so I expect to see more reaction in the coming weeks. I don’t think they will be as radical as Iron Mike, but he truly is one of a kind.
