During this year’s NBA All-Star game, Miami Heat star, Dwyane Wade, committed a hard foul against Kobe Bryant, resulting in a broken nose as well as a concussion for Los Angeles Laker during this year’s NBA All-Star game. While rehabbing his nasal injury, Bryant was forced to wear a custom made mask for protection from further injury.

It turns out that some good actually came out of the situation.

Kobe wore the mask for 11 games and was wearing it when he scored his 29,000 career point against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Recently, Bryant announced that he would be placing the mask on Ebay in an attempt to raise money for charity in case “anybody is dumb enough to buy that sweaty mask.”

As it turns out, there is someone who wanted to buy the mask. In fact, there were 129 bids on the item. Though the bid opened at $250, the mask ended up selling for a whopping $67,100.

All of the proceeds from the sale of the mask go to the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation whose mission is to “improve the lives of youth and families in need” in the Los Angeles area. Bryant’s foundation works to wipe-out homelessness throughout the city, particularly among the youth. In addition, Bryant supports “My Friend’s Place,” a shelter for homeless adolescents.

Love him or hate him, you have to give credit to Bryant for using his position to help out his fellow man.

And if he can do it by selling a sweaty and stinky mask, good for him, and even better for the kids he is helping.
