In honor of the 20th anniversary of the Dream Team, I figured it would be a good idea to take a stroll down memory lane, and relive some great moments from the 1992 Olympics.
In this installment, we get Charles Barkley‘s thoughts on Angola (the Dream Team’s first opponent), and some highlights from the game. The most notable highlight for me, was when Barkley decided to throw an elbow that connected with the chest of one of the Angola players…
“I don’t know anything about Angola.”
The Barkley elbow is at 3:10.
These two videos contain classic Sir Charles to say the least. Not only his famous mouth, but it also shows him in the prime of his career as well. Today Barkley is known for his analyst work on TNT, but we shouldn’t forget just how good of a basketball player he was. He was anything but a jokester on the court…
It’s tough to believe it’s been nearly 20 years since the Dream Team made it’s debut. I remember going into the Angola game there was still some question on just how good the Dream Team would be. Everyone knew they were going to be awesome, and that they were the favorites to win the Gold medal, but no one knew just how dominant they would be.
This game set the stage for the remainder of the Olympics, and let the other teams know that they were in a for a long night against the Americans.
Stay tuned for more moments in Dream Team history as we get closer to the 2012 London Olympics.
