College Football Recruiting: Bob Marley’s Grandson, Nico, Commits to Tulane
Apparently, everything is going to be alright.
Sorry, couldn’t resist.
One of the more interesting college football recruiting stories of the day is that Bob Marley‘s grandson, Nico Marley, a 5’8″, 190 pound linebacker from Cypress Bay High School in Weston, Florida has committed to play for the Tulane Green Wave in 2013. Marley is the son of former Miami Hurricanes star Rohan Marley.
Marley is well-known for his immense upper-body strength, and according to scouting reports from various sites, would have seen substantially greater interest at the Division I level had he been a few inches taller.
Nico should be one of the stronger members of the Green Wave from his arrival on campus given reports he has a bench press maximum of 345 pounds, a squat maximum of 500 pounds, and a power clean of 280.
Tulane comes off of a rough 2-11 finish in 2011, but returns a total of 14 starters on the two sides of the ball (7 on offense, 7 on defense), and will need massive improvement at almost all positions to turn things around this fall– giving guys like Marley and other newcomers in the 2013 recruiting class a chance to hope they will see serious minutes even next season if 2012 is another struggle.
Before long, we’ll have a world-class stable of ex pop-star offspring in college football now that Nico Marley joins the mix along with UCLA commit Justin Combs (son of Sean Combs A.K.A. Puff Daddy etc.), and possibly even Snoop Dogg‘s son, Cordell Broadus, who was offered a scholarship by UCLA earlier today, even though he wouldn’t arrive on campus until 2016.
Must be the genes.
