Pat Summitt is going to go down in history as one of the best coaches in the history of basketball. It does not matter if she was coaching men, women, or small primates, she could probably win titles with them. Summitt has since retired to focus on her battle with Alzheimer’s but she received a wonderful tribute at the ESPYS.
If that did not move you to tears, I am shocked. The battle that she is going through is tremendous, but she has dealt with adversity before. I did not know that she had that many miscarriages while trying to have a child. That only adds to her lore. She has overcame so much in life that a thing like this disease seems like another game to out-coach the opponent.
I have a grandfather who is dealing with a similar mental illness and it is tough to watch people deal with such a thing. I admire Pat Summitt for being a face for the disease and fighter to find the cure. If Summitt can overcome the disease or at least live a good rest of her life, that is something that we can appreciate.
The ESPYS have a lot of things wrong with them. I personally can not stand the things as it is basically ESPN trying to pat itself on the back for almost three hours. However, stuff like this makes the whole show worth watching. If you only watch one thing from the show, please watch this.
