Zach Johnson Hits Ridiculous Shot from Bunker to Win John Deere Classic

Zach Johnson found himself in a sudden death playoff Sunday at the John Deer Golf Classic in the Quad Cities (IL).

Johnson was tied after 18 holes with Troy Matteson at (-20). The two would go into what would be one of the most outrageous playoffs you’ll ever see.

Here’s the shot that won it for Johnson:

In addition to his victory, Johnson appeared to tell a fan “Bro. Shut it,” during the playoff.

The first playoff hole was odd to say the least, as both golfers hit their second shot into the water, and then both preceded to over hit their first putts. Eventually both men double bogeyed, and re-teed 18 for another hole.

In his attempt to drop his ball after hitting it into the water, Johnson engaged in what would be a bizarre episode, dropping a total of four times. The ball kept hitting his tee that was marking the distance. The announcers claimed to have never seen anything like this before, and they’ve watched a heck of a lot more golf than I.

Johnson again looked to be in trouble after hitting his tee shot into the same bunker on 18 again, but he managed to pull off the shot of the day to set himself up for victory…

This win was extra special for Johnson, as he is a big influence on the tournament, being from neighboring Iowa.

This is Johnson’s second win of the season, and it gives him good momentum heading overseas to The Open Championship next weekend.
