Jaime Gruber and Jess Robertson are going to be household names in the kickball world after this amazing catch at the 2012 DC Kickball Open. The two play on the Meatballs from Ft. Lauderdale and this kicking catch between the two is grand. I believe it is Gruber who kicks the sinking liner up into the air and the waiting arms of Robertson, but I could be wrong.
This is something that you can dream about but it never actually happens. A lot of things have to go right on a play like this. The ball has to be kicked perfectly up in the air. If the kicker (Gruber?) doesn’t catch the ball perfectly, it could turn into a nightmare. The perfect kick sets up an easy play for the second person (Robertson?). They just have to track the ball and settle under it.
I honestly think kickball should get more air time than it does. Everyone I know loves kickball, mainly because it takes you back to childhood. Kickball was possibly the best recess game ever. The fact that these people are still playing kickball and doing it in tournaments is amazing to me. I wish I was in a league like this.
I think we need to give Jaime Gruber and Jess Robertson the highest kickball honor on the planet. I have no idea what it would be, but it sounds fitting on something like this. This play does not happen if both players are not in the right place at the exact right time.
