USA swimming boasts two of the best swimmers in Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte but those two were not enough to win gold. France was able to make a run at the end as the anchor Lochte was unable to hold onto the victory for the team.
Phelps and Lochte are going to continue to battle each other in the individual events, but it is a big boost for USA swimming to have these two on the same team. They are probably the two best in the world and they seem to push each other to new heights. However, Lochte just swam badly in the final leg of the race. Phelps did his part, along with the other two members of the team. Lochte, on the other hand, kind of looked like Phelps did on Saturday.
Phelps continues to add medals to his extremely impressive collection and he looked a lot better on Sunday than he did on Saturday. Phelps just did not look himself in the 400 IM and he did not even medal. Lochte, on the other hand, dominated that race and just choked on Sunday. He had a lead and he just got out swam. That is something that you do not see everyday from the US contingent.
We will see these two race against each other more as the 2012 Summer Olympics continue. Hopefully we can get both swimmers at their best. So far, they have no been able to sync up their swimming skills.
