Usain Bolt won another 100 meter gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics but that was almost stopped before it began. As you can see in the photo above, some genius decided to throw a bottle in the general direction of Bolt just as the race was about to begin. Luckily, the bottle was not close to anyone and landed far enough away from the racers to avoid a distraction.
It is not a 100 percent certainty that this bottle was aimed at Bolt, but the bottle ended up coming to rest just two lanes over in the lane of Yohan Blake. The bottle first landed in Bolt’s lane and caromed over there, but it was far enough back to avoid hitting anyone, as you can see in this photo from the Telegraph.
The story also gets a little bit funny as it turns out that Edith Bosch, the woman who won bronze in judo, was sitting next to the man who threw the bottle. She decided to punch him. Not exactly a bad strategy on her end.
If the guy who threw this had better aim, this could have ended in a disaster. If the bottle had ended up hitting Usain Bolt or any of the other runners, it would have marred the event for everyone involved. The authorities wasted no time getting involved and arresting the man for throwing the bottle.
Usain Bolt dominated the 100 final to bring home gold but it all could have changed thanks to one stupid fan. Luckily he was not rewarded for his stupidity and the race went off without a hitch.
