The Fierce Five Become Stephen Colbert Interns
The USA Gymnastics team, dubbed the “Fierce Five” by most of America, stopped by the Colbert Report Wednesday, trying their luck at something other than gymnastics.
They made sure Stephen Colbert had his pen.
It sounds silly, but they delivered his pen in style, from handstands to forward rolls, to back handsprings. Jordyn Wieber, who helped lead the team to their gold medal finish, delivered the pen between her toes in a handstand…think you could do that?
One of the best parts about the video (other than McKayla Maroney showing off her signature “unimpressed” look) is the appearance of Aly Raisman‘s mom. If you remember from earlier in the Olympics, the Raisman parents were spotted reacting intensely to their daughter’s bar routine performance, swaying back and forth as if their body motions would help get her over the bar. Mrs. Raisman appeared next to Colbert reenacting the video, while the other moms are shown nearly asleep in the audience.
The fierce five girls just arrived home Wednesday after a trip to New York, with other appearances such as the David Letterman show and the TODAY show. Now they will have to get ready for the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions, where they will tour the country with each other and former Olympians.
If you are like me and having olympic withdrawals, there will be plenty of the fierce five to go around in the coming weeks and after the Kellogg’s tour, as each of the five are becoming celebrities in their own way.
