One of the most dangerous risks about participating in water activities on the beaches of California is coming across one of the larger creatures of the sea. As for two kayakers, they recently came across a humpback whale while they were out in the waters off Avila Beach and the best part is–they managed to capture the experience on video.

As you can see in the video above, Rhonda Burmeister had the camera ready when the humpback whale jumped out of the water right next to her daughter, Samantha, while the two were out in their kayaks in the middle of a bay in California. What’s even more amazing is the whale managed to pop up a second time right in front of Rhonda–which must have given her some sort of scare based off her reaction in the video.

Luckily, none of the kayakers were harmed from this close encounter, but the video description claims there was another couple in the area that was actually knocked out of their kayaks by the whale. If anything, these kayakers should consider themselves lucky that they were able to come as close as they did to one of nature’s most fascinating creatures and managed to capture it all on tape.

Give these kayakers credit–they handled this situation much better than I sure would have if it was me in the kayak.
