Houston Astros Pitcher Mickey Storey Leaves Game After Line Drive Hits Off Face

MLB

Mickey Storey is just a young guy trying to make a name for himself with the Houston Astros. On Wednesday, he may have seen his career flash before his eyes as he took a line drive off the face against the Chicago Cubs.

This is the second time in less than ten days that this has happened to a pitcher. Brandon McCarthy just got out of the hospital after having a liner nail him in the head. That is how scary that this situation can end up being. If you get hit in the head by something moving that fast, the possibility for injury is almost endless.

Storey was able to leave under his own power but we will have to wait and see on the severity of his injury.  Remember, McCarthy was able to walk off the field and he ended up in a life threatening situation.  That is how dangerous a line drive to the face or head can be.

If you think about it, we are so lucky that more incidents like this do not happen in baseball.  The pitcher is only 60 feet away from home plate.  The reaction time on a line drive right back up the field is not a lot.  That means that there should probably be more injuries on plays like this.

Hopefully Storey is alright and he is able to come back and pitch soon.  You hate to see a guy get hurt in a situation like this.
