You figure getting arrested for assault once should be enough, but not for Larry Johnson. Early Friday morning, Johnson was arrested in Las Vegas for strangling a former girlfriend inside a hotel room at Bellagio. This is now the 5th charge of assault for the former Kansas City Chiefs player since 2003, every time being a violent incident with a woman.
Johnson and the ex-girlfriend were partying and drinking together when they decided to go up to Johnson’s hotel room to catch up. Conversation about his daughter came up and Johnson couldn’t tolerate it so he responded by attacking the woman until she passed out.
The girlfriend reported to the police that she woke up in the hallway on the 10th floor, only wearing underwear and a see-through top so she banged on random hotel room doors to get help. She also told them that Johnson had abused her before which makes me wonder why she went up to his hotel room in the first place.
Johnson was ultimately was arrested at 4:30 AM. Police noted that when they saw the ex-girlfriend she had marks on her face, as well as bruises around her neck. He is now facing up to 2 years in prison.
Even more ironic, he played for the Penn State Nittany Lions, yet managed to keep a clean record there regardless of the other scandals. Well lets face it, they probably did occur but someone found a way to cover it up.
Johnson debuted with the Chiefs in 2003, which is ironically the same year he got his first assault charge, followed by 1 in 2005 and 2 more in 2008. Johnson also played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins between 2009-2011.
How he has managed to avoid jail after 4 assault charges is beyond me, it should be a crime to not put him in the slammer this time.
