Barcelona Star Lionel Messi is a Father

Papa Messi

Lionel Messi, the Argentinian soccer prodigy, is now a proud dad.  The Barcelona star’s girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo, gave birth to Thiago Messi on Friday.  It’s a boy!

Messi delivered this statement on his Facebook.

“Today I am the happiest man in the world, my son was born and thanks to God for this gift!”

Messi, 25, is arguably the best player to ever touch a soccer ball.  Some critics, similar to the Lebron James debates, claim that Messi must win a World Cup title for his homeland of Argentina before he can be donned the world’s all time best.  However, there is a large group of critics who believe he is the best, with or without a World Cup.

Brazilian hero Pele’, who has won three World Cups is widely regarded as the best ever, but Messi is surely within striking distance to own this title.

On the soccer pitch, the Argentinian is a genius, so it’s big news to find out his spawn is now amongst us.  It is now just a matter of time before we see lil’ Messi out on a professional squad ripping through defenses just like his pops.  He will definitely stunt like his daddy.

With help from dad, Thiago Messi will be a star at a young age, and likely play for the Barcelona youth clubs, as he will grow up right outside their facilities.

I can already see myself telling my kids that father Messi was better than Thiago Messi.

For your viewing pleasure, below is a nice 2012 highlight tape of the new dad.
