The Iowa Hawkeyes football season just ended but players are already getting themselves into trouble. That’s right, another Hawkeye football player has been arrested.
Take a wild guess at which position this player plays? He’s a running back. I don’t know what it is with Iowa running backs but they somehow keep getting arrested. I couldn’t even tell you how many running backs have been arrested in the last 4 years.
Barkley Hill found himself arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) at 5:37 AM on Saturday morning in Black Hawk County. Hill is a freshman on the team so he isn’t even 21 yet.
Hill hasn’t even had the opportunity to play football as a Hawkeye and he’s already messing up. He missed his entire freshman year due to an ACL tear he suffered in August. Hill would have received a ton of playing time if it weren’t for his injury.
At the minimum, Hill is facing a one game suspension. This would normally be the bowl game due to timing but since Iowa had such a poor season, they are ineligible to be in a bowl game. Hill will miss the first game of Iowa’s 2013 season.
I don’t know what it is about the running back position for Iowa but they all seem to end up injured or arrested. For Hill, he has now managed both and it’s only his freshman year.
All the Hawkeyes can hope for is players to make good decisions and to not get hurt between now and August 2013. I’m not sure if anything can be worse than the Hawkeyes unexpected 4-8 record this season.
