Denver Broncos RB Knowshon Moreno Hurdles Ed Reed

Denver Broncos running back Knowshon Moreno found himself in the coach John Fox’s doghouse after fumbling away the football in week two. After that game Moreno was inactive for the next eight contests and was only reinstated after starter Willis McGahee went down with an injury.

He’s making the most of his second chance and he’s doing it in highlight fashion. Check out what he did to Ed Reed and the Baltimore Ravens defense today:

Moreno has a knack of trying to hurdle defenders as he’s done it a few times since he was drafted 12th overall by the Broncos in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Besides just leaping over the Ravens defenders Moreno was running all over them on Sunday, amassing 118 yards and one touchdown on 22 carries.

If I were Moreno the highlight plays are all good and well but eventually he’s going to try the same hurdle move again and get hurt. One of the worst things a running back can do is leave the ground and although he’s been getting away with it in the past, defenders are going to start anticipating it and put him down hard. It only takes one play for Moreno to get hurt and seriously put the Broncos in a bind with only rookie Ronnie Hillman and journeyman Jacob Hester left on the roster at RB.

The Broncos absolutely dismantled the Ravens on their way to their ninth straight victory and Moreno was a big part of their success Sunday. However, he needs to be a little more careful because he’s been playing well lately and it would be a shame if he got hurt trying to be flashy.
