10 Coaches Who Need Their Own Reality Show

It’s OK, you can admit it, you watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Maybe you blame on your girlfriend because she watches it or maybe you just watch it because you think they’re hot. Me, I watch it only with my girlfriend and only because Scott cracks me up. That dude is the best! He’s the only one who gives the family what they deserve because if you ask me the entire Kardashian crew (aside from Bruce and Scott), is trash. But isn’t that what reality television is, trash?

If you disagree with my premise that pretty much all reality TV is garbage then you probably like Honey Boo Boo or the Jersey Shore, and that’s fine but I’m not sure you can call it anything other than trash. It’s not a guilty pleasure, so please stop calling it that.

You know what isn’t trash? Reality sports television; show like HBO’s 24/7 or Hard Knocks, that is good reality TV. Recently ESPN came out with a show with all-access for the University of Kentucky basketball and their head coach John Calipari. When I saw that show, which was very good, it sparked my interest. Which sports coaches would make the best stars of their own reality show? And if you read my stuff on Rant Sports you know I had to go digging into my brain to find just the right candidates to just that.

Here are the top 10 coaches who should have their own reality show, and we would all watch!

10. Chip Kelly

Number 10 is Oregon Football coach Chip Kelly. He has an unbelievable mind for the game of football and would be an absolute joy to follow around to see how he comes up with some of his signals. He seems like a geniouly good guy who brings more than just football knowledge and I think we’d get some great real life tidbits from Kelly. It would be a great watch, especially if the NFL came calling, then we may get to see how he made the decision to stay in college or turn pro.

9. Buzz Williams

Number 9 is Buzz Williams, head basketball coach at Marquette. This guy is an absolute joy to watch roam the sideline during games. He paces constantly, never sits down, loses his voice every game and sweats profusely. He brings an energy rarely seen in a basketball coach and it would be fun to see if he’s got that crazy energy in all aspects of his life or if he just brings it to the basketball court. I’d also love to see how he recruits.

8. Mike Leach

Washington St. football coach Mike Leach comes in at number 8 for me because of his sparkling personality. I know, I know, it doesn’t seem that way because of the dry way he goes about things but that actually cracks me up. His temper is right up there with the best of them and wouldn’t we all like to see if any of the stories about him are true or not? Some players can’t take his harsh way of coaching and I, for one, would like to see what the big fuss is about. I am fascinated by Mike Leach.

7. Will Muschamp

Another college football coach comes in at number 7 and it’s Will Muschamp. The Florida Gators coach is always unkempt and always seems to be some sort of whirlwind. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him standing still or without some sort of angry or excited face? He brings a ton of energy every Saturday and it would nice to see what he is like off the field; does he calm down or is he always fired up? He seems like a perfect guy to get to know.

6. Ozzie Guillen

Ozzie Guillen is number 6. He is such an enigma and I want to know why he goes so crazy at the drop of a hat and he’s got no filter so the censor guy will earn his money. He’s also a pretty smart guy so any understanding of how he can be such a moron sometimes may help us to get a better clue as to why he is the way he is. He’s also a guy people love to hate, which means everyone will watch, he’s a ratings bonanza!

5. Frank Martin

Number 5 is Frank Martin. Formerly the Kansas St. basketball coach, he coaches South Carolina and this is a guy who brings an intensity that scares the crap out of me. He can give that look that lets everyone know he’s not happy and I would love to know how he lives his life away from the basketball court.

4. Jim Harbaugh

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh earns the number 4 spot. Maybe he doesn’t interest you the way he does me but I think the guy is extremely intriguing. He gets excited over the smallest things and he doesn’t appear to have a care in the world about what anyone thinks, he just does what he thinks is right. For instance, the crazy handshake with Lions coach Jim Schwartz and the entire lie he told everyone about not looking into Peyton Manning. The Niners worked out Manning and everyone knew it but he still denies it till this day, that’s impressive. He seems like an odd guy, perfect for a reality show.

3. Bob Huggins & Dana Holgorsen

Number 3 is a tie because you can combine them into one show because they coach at the same university, Dana Holgorsen and Bob Huggins. How much fun would that reality show be! They both bring intensity and a temper that would make for a great show. Holgorsen is about as animated as it gets on the football field and Huggins is no picnic either if you look at him the wrong way. This show has the potential for a ton of excitement, and expletives. And I would watch it every week for these two characters.

2. Joe Madden

Joe Madden is number 2 on the list. The Tampa Bay Rays manager is a well smart, funny and temperamental man who is always engaging. His story is very interesting, as is his hair, which seems to change all the time. I would be very intrigued by a show with him as the headliner because of his personality. He can also get fired up with the best of them, which is always fun and he seems to lead an intriguing life. I would love to watch a show with him on it.

1. Les Miles

The number 1 coach who needs a reality show is none other than the Mad Hatter, Les Miles. The LSU football coach maybe funnier for the way he talks, rather than what he says. Anything that comes out of his mouth is usually pretty interesting. He has some of the best one-liners ever and his personality matches his unconvential style on the field. At times he is as calm as can be and at other times he gets as fired up as anyone can get. I love watching him coach because you never know what he’s going to do, he may just pick up some grass and start eating it. It’s that unpredictability that makes him such a joy to follow. Les Miles is definitely the number 1 coach that should have a reality show!
