Deonte Burton Assaults The Rim

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Deonte Burton may not be a name that everyone knows, but the Nevada Wolf Pack guard is going to be all over the highlights. On Tuesday night, he rose high above the rim on an inbounds play to throw down an amazing alley-lop against the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels.

It was a play that not a lot of people saw right away, but I know I had to flip right to CBS Sports Network after I heard about it.  Sure enough, they had a replay that simply did not do the play justice.  I mean, no one had to see that coming.  Burton is listed as 6’1, which means that is an incredible play to go up there and get that pass.

The dunk managed to suck all the air out of the UNLV fans – that’s when you know a play is incredible.  The silence showed that the man was respected after that amazing play.  He probably could have used both hands, but that would have made the dunk a little bit less awesome.  When someone throws down a one-handed sledgehammer dunk like that, you have to love it.

You will see this play all over the highlights for at least the next day.  That has to be one of the best dunks of the college basketball season.  That is why you have to watch every single night.  There are always some games that fly under the radar with plays that are simply out of this world.

Congrats go out to Burton on this.  He won the Internet for the night.
