The NFL is flying 26 students and their families down to New Orleans this week in order to prepare for their performance. Twenty students and six faculty members were tragically shot at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. on Dec. 14.
When the students take the stage on Sunday, it is sure to be an emotional performance for the entire nation. It will be an event that we will never forget.
Ever since the shootings, the NFL has done an outstanding job to support the community of Newtown. Teams have put “S.H.E.S” stickers on helmets, gloves and cleats. Moments of silence were given before many games and many players have made charitable donations.
On top of that, New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz, Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson and Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt have reached above and beyond to the students and families of Sandy Hook Elementary.
The shootings were a reality check for the entire nation and it sparked a huge debate on gun control laws. The NFL is not the only organization that has made an effort to support the community. NCAA Basketball, NCAA Football and AHL hockey teams have also showed their support.
The leagues have showed great support for the tragedy, but more importantly, they have proved that there is more to life than sports and fame.
