Things Getting Worse for Oscar Pistorius in Girlfriend Murder Trial
South African Olympic and Paralympic sprinter Oscar Pistorius has formally been charged with the murder of his girlfriend, South African model Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius’ claim that he unintentionally shot and killed Steenkamp early Valentine’s Day morning is being heavily tried by prosecutor Gerrei Nel, who has had a lot of tough claims against and questions for the 26-year-old double amputee.
Reports from Pretoria say Pistorius has wept pretty much constantly throughout the entire process, even drawing an agitated reprimand from Chief Magistrate Desmond Nair. You’ve got to feel sorry for the guy…unless you believe he’s guilty for premeditated murder, which would earn him a life sentence in prison.
Nel claims Pistorius took the time to put on his prosthetic “blade” legs before going to his bathroom and shooting through the door, killing Steenkamp while the sprinter claims he did not have on his prosthetics and shot through the door out of fear. Obviously, this is going to be the turning point in the trial, depending on who the Magistrate believes. But regardless of what anyone does or doesn’t believe, it’s hard to be angry at a guy who’s crying while talking about his recently killed girlfriend say this:
“She died in my arms.”
So Pistorius claims he mistook her for an intruder and fired because he was afraid, as he didn’t have on his prosthetic legs. The prosecutor is saying the two were in a shouting match, Steenkamp went to the bathroom to hide and Pistorius shot her through the door.
Pistorius has already lost over $1 million in endorsements over the case and now it appears things are about to get a lot worse for him. Thoughts and prayers of the Rant Sports family still go out to Steenkamp’s family.
