20 Athletes With Horrible Performances on Reality TV

1 of 21

The Worst of the Worst

Source: Jayne Kamin Oncea

Athletes make millions of dollars a year, yet they’re always trying to find ways to make more. Many of them take part in reality TV shows in order to get some extra cash to blow.

Sometimes they have a great performance and other times, they just don’t fit in with the show. For instance, do you really think an NFL player would be a good dancer on Dancing With the Stars? Well, some of them have been excellent and others have just plain sucked.

Recently, ABC aired a new TV show, Splash. Celebrities compete in a high dive competition. Let’s just say that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar botched his first dive and ended up belly flopping. Then Ndamukong Suh had to save the life of comedian, Louie Anderson. But that’s an entire show that just turned into a disaster.

Then you have “Millionaire Matchmaker.” What kind of millionaire athlete needs a show just to find a significant other? I can’t stand that type of stuff. Even worse than that, the shows that just follow someone around all day, everyday.

We don’t need an entire series devoted to following the daily life of an athlete. Everyone gets the point: athletes make a lot of money, have numerous cars, mansions and high-tech entertainment systems.

Most of these reality shows are just plain stupid. Shows like Survivor and The Amazing Race actually require talent; you won’t see any athletes from those shows on this list. So which athletes made fools of themselves when they were featured on reality TV? Take a look and enjoy!

Dennis Rodman- Celebrity Rehab

Source: Bob Donnan- USA Today Sports

On top of being in rehab, Rodman also starred on Celebrity Apprentice and Celebrity Mole. He was sent to Celebrity Rehab for his addiction to alcohol. On the night of the premiere, he was kicked out of a bar for his belligerent and disruptive behavior; looks like the rehab didm't go so well. Then on Celebrity Apprentice, Donald Trump fired him for partying too much.

Jose Canseco- The Surreal Life

Source: Mark L. Baer- USA Today Sports

He's the public enemy of baseball due to his steroid use. The show basically consists of "celebrities" eating, drinking, sleeping, socializing and fighting over who is "more famous." Let's just say that this show didn't help him gain any popularity.

Kordell Stewart- The Real Housewives of Atlanta

Source: Derick E. Hingle- USA Today Sports

He really wasn't featured much on the show. However, his wife just couldn't hang with the gain and was kicked off for being "too nice." I guess she should have added a little more sass to her attitude.

Terrell Owens- The T.O. Show

Source: Joe Nicholson- USA Today Sports

I'm not sure how this show lasted three seasons because it got horrible reviews. He basically tried to increase the public's opinion on him by having his best friends and publicist follow him around. They tell him who to date and try to convince him to visit his estranged father among many other daily decisions.

Deion Sanders-Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love

Source: Derick E. Hingle- USA Today Sports

First off all Prime Time Love was not on a "prime time" network. It was aired on Oxygen network and showed the love between the two. Following the show, the two filed for divorce.

Kris Humphries- Keeping Up With The Kardashians

Source: Anthony Gruppuso- USA Today Sports

Let's just say that this show is pretty dumb to begin with. The only reason these girls have money is because they inherited it. Humphries was pretty much eye candy for girls that watch the show. Not to mention the fact that Humphries marriage to Kim Kardashian lasted a whopping 72 days.

Monica Seles- Dancing With the Stars

Source: wikimedia

Seles was one of the best tennis players in history. However, she didn't really succeed with ballroom dancing. She didn't miss a step but couldn't sell the audience and was kicked off the first week of the show.

Misty May-Treanor- Dancing With the Stars

Source: Christopher Hanewinckel- USA Today Sports

Okay, so her appearance wasn't "horrible." However, she ruptured her achilles during practice the first week so she never even got to perform on stage. I guess this one was just more of an incidence with bad luck.

Lamar Odom- Khloe and Lamar

Source: Debby Wong- USA Today Sports

Odon first made the reality TV world on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Was it really necessary to make another show, just to prove your love for Khloe Kardasian? There is no purpose to the show other than to follow the daily life of rich people.

Jesse Palmer- The Bachelor

Source: wikimedia

Palmer was one of the most popular stars on The Bachelor. However, the couple broke up before the show even finished airing. As if the idea of the show isn't stupid enough, nobody ever makes it through a marriage.

Evander Holyfield- Dancing With the Stars

Source: Kevin Liles- USA Today Sports

Holyfield lacked in the grace department but made that up with his high level of enthusiasm. He was booted off second with his poor dance of the "Quickstep."

Chuck Liddell- Dancing With the Stars

Source: Mark J. Rebilas- USA Today Sports

Let's just say that Liddell did not have any coordination when it came to ballroom dancing. Then when he struggled, he got a confused look on his face. He should probably stick to boxing in the ring.

Christian Okoye- Pirate Master

Source: Kirby Lee- USA Today Sports

First off, who came up with the idea for a show called Pirate Master? This is the worst possible idea for a reality TV show. He only lasted two episodes and was cut from the show for being too slow. Okoye has also appeared on The Surreal Life and Celebrity Boxing.

Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson- The Ultimate Catch

Source: Steve Mitchell- USA Today Sports

The show was orginially planned to help Johnson repair his public image. During the show, there was a rejected marriage proposal among many rejections for NFL teams. How this show lasted three seasons is somewhat a miracle considering he wasn't even playing at the time.

Mike Tyson- Taking on Tyson

Source: Joe Camporeale- USA Today Sports

First off, this show is featured on Animal Planet so you know it's got to be something wild. Tyson takes the time to travel to different pigeon coops and trains them to race. This is just weird for anyone, Tyson doesn't exactly seem like a man that would like to train pigeons.

Mark Philippoussis- Age of Love

Source: wikimedia

This show featured Philippoussis choosing between young 20-year olds and 40-year old cougars. During his tennis days, he was the eighth best player in the world. Did he really need a TV show to find a good woman? That's kind of pathetic.

18 of 21

Barry Bonds- Bonds on Bonds

Source: Kelley L. Cox- USA Today Sports

Bonds already sits on the top of the home run list, did he really need to come up with a cheesy reality TV show? It revolved around Bonds life and his history of steroid use. He even had an experience with cross-dressing in 2006; I think Bonds is a little more crazy than we expected. The show was cancelled after ten episodes due to poor ratings.

Ryan Lochte- What Would Lochte Do?

Source: Andrew Weber- USA Today Sports

We all saw Lochte's true colors show during his interviews at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Let's just say that this recently aired TV show didn't give us any better impressions. The ratings sucked but newscasters got some good laughs.

20 of 21

Shaq- Shaq Vs.

Source: Kim Klement- USA Today Sports

It was a little funny, but nothing special. Shaq claimed to be the "best" athlete ever and challenged other athletes in their own sports. Seemed like a little bit of a cocky idea to me. He is also on a new show called Upload, and helped kids lose weight in Shaq's Big Challenge.

Michael Andretti- The Celebrity Apprentice

Source: Brian Spurlock- USA Today Sports

Andretti wasn't the first one knocked off by Donald Trump during the fifth season of The Celebrity Apprentice. However, this NASCAR driver got the boot in episode four. Ironically, he failed a task involving his specialty, cars.
