Well, we officially have confirmation.

Louisville Cardinals head coach Rick Pitino followed through with his pledge and promise to get a tattoo if the team won the 2013 National Championship. Now he has a memorable work of art to remember this team’s run to glory.

Pitino took over the Cardinals’ program in 2001, leading the team to the National Championship here in 2013 after an incredible run to end the season. Louisville gathered some firepower late and carried their momentum straight through to the Big East Conference Tournament. Following the tournament title, which was their second in as many seasons, Louisville earned the No. 1 overall seed in the Big Dance. One of the heavy favorites to claim the title, the Cardinals lived up to that hype by cutting down the nets on that second Monday in April.

Take a look at Pitino’s tattoo below, which was tweeted out by Louisville SID Kenny Klein:

As you can tell from the picture, Pitino’s tattoo includes the Cardinals’ “L” logo, the year and the team’s 35-5 record.

The Cardinals are losing both Peyton Siva and Gorgui Dieng this season, but Louisville has tons of talent returning in 2013-14 including leading scorer and top play maker, Russ Smith. Pitino should once again have the Cardinals in the hunt for a National Championship in 2014, so he might want to re-think his promises late in the season.

Then again, what coach wouldn’t get a tattoo in exchange for a national championship?
