When it comes to quarterbacks of the NFL, it’s safe to say no player will be under the microscope more during the 2013 season than Mark Sanchez of the New York Jets. The former first-round pick has received numerous opportunities to prove himself as a starter over the years, but he’s been one of the most inconsistent quarterbacks in the NFL and is even coming off a 2012 season in which he failed to break the 3,000-yard mark and threw for just 13 touchdowns with 18 interceptions in 15 games.
Yes, Sanchez is the butt of all jokes (sorry–had to throw in a butt fumble joke) when it comes to quarterbacks in the league and it appears the latest player in the league to chime with his opinion–Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers.
During a recent interview, Smith made a comment about how he wouldn’t even let the Jets quarterback throw him a “paper-bag sandwich”–making it clear just how much respect he has towards Sanchez. It may seem unfair of Smith to take a shot at a player he’s never even played with, but as bad as it sounds–it’s safe to say Smith isn’t the only wide receiver in the league who feels this way.
There were plenty of questions surrounding Sanchez when the Jets selected him in the first round back in 2009 and after back-to-back disappointing seasons–2013 could be Sanchez’s final shot in New York when it comes to being the starter.
