In what can certainly be described as one of the more bizarre stories that you will hear from the world of recruiting — college football’s top overall prospect revealed a unique, yet impossible promise that was offered to him.

At 6-foot-4, 248 lbs., Da’Shawn Hand has quickly emerged as the top college football recruit in the country from within the class of 2014. He sat down with CBSSports.com‘s Bruce Feldman for a quick Q & A on his recruitment and the label of being named the No. 1 prospect in the country.

Well, upon being asked what the craziest thing he had heard from a coach was, Hand had a hilarious response:

Q: What is the craziest thing that has happened to you since you’ve been named the nation’s No. 1 recruit?

Hand: Well, I ain’t gonna say any names, but one coach told me that since I’m the No. 1 player, I’m gonna get to meet Michael Jackson. I said, “Isn’t he already dead?” The coach goes, “Well, all right, you can meet Tito.” I was like, all right. OK, I’m done.

It was crazy, but it is what it is.

Michael Jackson? Really?

Either that coach was really unaware that Jackson passed away or he might have just been trying to see if the recruit had any idea who he was. Obviously, everyone knows who Michael Jackson, but maybe the coach was just trying a different angle — either way it’s obviously impossible.

At least Hand picked up on the crazy promise and was respectable in not naming the coach, although I’m sure fans would be dying to know who really made this pitch.
