Max Kellerman Hired as Co-Host of ESPN’s SportsNation

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

Since 2009, ESPN’s daily show, SportsNation, has certainly been one of the more popular ones. When the show began, the co-hosts of the program were radio personality Colin Cowherd and a lovely lady by the name of Michelle Beadle. While the show focused on a lot of fan-based interactions with the use of various polls and such, the male-female dynamic is what gave the show a lot of its appeal. It was refreshing to some to see an opinionated female give her take on the top sports stories, opposite the male.

Well, since then, Cowherd has gone back to being a prominent presence on the radio, while Beadle has moved on to explore her own endeavors outside of ESPN altogether. This was also around the time that I stopped watching the show religiously, but that’s neither here nor there.

Lately, it’s been the lovely Charissa Thompson manning the ship along side former NFL star, Marcellus Wiley. Well, with the news that Thompson will be following in her predecessor’s footsteps and leaving the World-Wide Leader, venturing off to Fox Sports, it was time to find a replacement.

And, according to Mike Soltys of ESPN Los Angeles, that replacement has been found.

You can say bye-bye to the female to male interaction, while welcoming back a familiar face at the same time.

Yes, that Max Kellerman will be filling the open seat left by Thompson.

If you can remember back that far, not only was Kellerman the former, resident boxing expert for the company, he is also the original host of another famed ESPN show, Around the Horn. In the early 2000s, Kellerman left ESPN for Fox Sports Net, where he was the host of a show called, ‘I,Max’, which didn’t exactly pan out that well.

The former employee has been making frequent ESPN radio appearances lately, which doesn’t make a move such as this all that shocking.

Still, what are your perceptions of the show now with two males at the helm, as opposed to the traditional male-female setting?
