F1 Driver Lewis Hamilton Ready To Propose?

Jerome Miron – USA TODAY Sports

As Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton prepared for his home Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend he hinted at the possibility of proposing to long-term girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger.

The 28-year-old World Champion and the 34-year-old ex-Pussycat Doll have been dating for five years.

Hamilton told the Sun: “We’ve been together for five years, which is quite a milestone really. But hopefully in the near future. Maybe before we get to six years.”

The stars both have busy months ahead of them with Hamilton’s racing schedule and Scherzinger committed to The X Factor until December. Perhaps this will give her time to think on it, although Scherzinger’s response when asked about her relationship with Hamilton suggests she won’t need to think for long.

“We’re kindred spirits and hearts,” Scherzinger said. “That’s what ultimately connects us.”

Maybe a home victory at Silverstone will urge Hamilton into prematurely popping the question?

Hamilton hasn’t tasted home victory in four years but hopes to make amends at the British Grand Prix on Sunday. It clearly means a lot to the World Champion as he says victory at Silverstone in front of the British home crowd is his personal “ultimate” achievement on the F1 calendar, going as far as likening it to winning the World Championship.

Hamilton is also the last Briton to have claimed a home victory at Silverstone since David Coulthard in 1999 and 2000. In 2008 the young McLaren driver overcame wet conditions to claim victory under black skies and in front of packed grandstands.

Although Silverstone’s weather is predicted as sunny on race day, the UK’s capricious weather system may decide otherwise.
