In a story that is not a story, Colin Kaepernick found himself under cyber-attack over the holiday, when a photo of him celebrating the Fourth in a Miami Dolphins cap surfaced.

For most people, the crisp white cap would have been seen as the finishing touch on a clean summer outfit, but Kaepernick is not most people. He is the starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, and as such, it is a deadly sin to be caught displaying the logo of a rival NFL team. At least that is what he has been hearing from the countless judge and juries of social media.

The backlash caught the attention of the young quarterback and his response was perfect, posting the picture on his Instagram account, and saying:

This the hat y’all mad at? I’m goin wear what I want regardless of what you think, all you need to worry about is the fact that I grind for my teammates and the 49ers! I plan on doin this until they won’t let me in the building! #ridiculous#y’allmustbebored”

Here is the tweet he provided with a link to his Instagram account:

Anyone who has ever tried to get one over on a parent who has “been there and done that” has seen this look. It is the look that says, “Please. Go back and try to come up with something I won’t see coming from a mile away.” It is the perfect look to give petulant fans and naysayers who should know better.

It might be different if Kaepernick was getting close to entering free agency, or if he was openly unhappy with his team, but that is not the case. He was handed the keys to the 49ers offense midway through the season, and he led his team all the way to the Super Bowl. His team fell short in the final game of the season, but the Niners are built to last, and Kaepernick could easily find himself back in the Big Game. He is not going anywhere any time soon.

In the end, this is truly a story about nothing at all. If the guy wants to match his outfit before going out, then more power to him. The fact that he has the confidence to rock a Dolphins cap just shows how comfortable he is with where he is at in his life.

Kaepernick has reportedly been working like a fiend to get another crack at the Lombardi Trophy, and he has a great chance to be successful. If he is going to be knocked down a notch or two, it certainly won’t be over what logo is on his cap. You will have to come up with much better than that to keep this rising star on the ground.
