The Houston Rockets made the biggest headline of this free agent period by signing the top target in this summer’s open market, Dwight Howard.
While Howard awaits the official word and welcome in Houston, which can come as early as Wednesday, he’s not wasting any time making some new friends and fans in the area. According to a report, Howard was out to breakfast at a local Houston-area restaurant called The Breakfast Klub when he decided — hey, I’ll just pick up the entire tab for the entire restaurant.
Howard bought breakfast for all the patrons that were there eating. Quite the nice gesture, especially for someone like Howard who is looking to find some consistent fandom at this point in his career.
Howard will be signing a four-year, $88 million contract with the Rockets at some point, effectively joining a squad that earned the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference this past season. Howard will be joining the likes of James Harden, Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons in Houston, as well as taking over a front court that includes emerging center, Omer Asik.
Asik however, was not all too pleased with the team’s decision to sign Howard for obvious reasons. Maybe Howard needs to buy him breakfast too — either that or Asik just needs to get over the fact that Howard is now the future of the Rockets’ front court.
Either way, Howard is making some new friends in Houston, even if he has to buy breakfast in order to do so.
