From the story behind Jack Hoffman winning an award to the Hoyt’s story surrounding the Boston Marathon, there were plenty of emotional moments to take away from the 2013 ESPY Awards that took place on Wednesday night. However, it’s safe to say that no speech may have been more emotional than the one given by Robin Roberts–who was this year’s winner of the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
For those of you unfamiliar with her story, Roberts has overcome numerous obstacles throughout her life and should be considered an inspiration to us all with everything she’s had to deal with. Along with her struggles to make it as a female broadcast journalist before joining ESPN in 1990, Roberts has received heavy praise for overcoming battles with breast cancer in 2007 and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) in 2012.
Thanks to her fight and never-give-up attitude, Roberts was honored at this year’s ESPY Awards and if you thought she was an inspiration before–just wait until you see the speech she gave in the above.
It takes a lot of courage to open up about the struggles that Roberts has gone through in life, but she knew it was something she had to do as a way to inspire others that there is always a way to turn things around. Roberts has inspired so many individuals throughout her life and this may go down as one of the most inspirational speeches of all time from a role model who everybody should look to as an inspiration.
